Mad River Valley Health Center Capital Campaign
After a successful 14 month Capital Campaign, the new community owned health center opened in December, 2005. For a history of this evolution, see below.........
Then
In 1981, the local physician decided to leave the valley and was unable to find a private physician to purchase his practice or the health facility.

Understanding that the Valley’s 5,000 residents needed a local health center, yet cognizant of the financial demands facing a young physician starting a rural medical practice, a group of concerned citizens formed the non-profit corporation, The Mad River Valley Health Center, Inc in January of 1981, to address the health needs of this growing community.

In two months, a group of 150 volunteer community members and businesses raised the $150,000 necessary to purchase the medical practice and the building. By the middle of 1981, the MRVHC’ S Board of Directors had established a primary care facility to address the needs of the family in the Mad River Valley community, neighboring towns and visitors.

In the mid-80s, Dr. Fran Cook purchased the medical practice from MRVHC, Inc and continues to lease his health center space from the non-profit MRVHC, Inc today.

Now The growth of the community placed demands on the previous facility that outpaced it space and functionality. In order to continue to serve the health needs of the Valley and our visitors, the Board embarked on a Capital Campaign to raise the needed funds to construct a larger, more accessible and functional building on the existing site
The proposed building increased the amount of space from 1,600 to 3,200 sq. ft. for the existing practice, an additional 3,200 sq. ft. for complimentary health services and a conference room for health outreach and community service.

The goals of the MRVHC Capital Campaign are as follows:

  1. to maintain and enhance the high quality of health care service to the Mad River Valley, its as neighboring communities and visitors.
  2. to provide much needed additional space for the current and future needs of our local health care providers
  3. to provide space for additional health care services and programs on the second floor
  4. to expand the ability to host programs in preventative health care and community service
  5. to construct a building that complements the historic streetscape of the Village of Waitsfield and enhances its surroundings
The success of this Capital Campaign depends on the contribution of all community members, second homeowners, businesses and visitors. Rarely has there been a project that will benefit the community in such an important manner. Express your support; give generously to this critical cause.
